Since this is marketing for companies without marketing departments, you may not be familiar with working with a copywriter. Even if it isn’t a new experience, it’s always good to know what to expect.
So, here’s how it works. It’s a simple six-step process.
First thing, we’ll have a short phone call to discuss your business, your budget, and why you need help.
I believe in honesty and transparency. If I can help you, I’ll let you know. If I can’t I’ll try to refer you to someone who can.
If it looks like we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll set up a follow-up call to discuss your goals and your project in more detail.
What you get: Before the second call, I will send you quick questionnaire to fill out, so I’ll know more about your company, your ideal customers, and your products.
Sometimes, clients need help figuring out their ideal audience and their points of difference. If that’s you, we can schedule a paid session to work on that. I’ll ask you lots of questions about your goals, your audience, your customers’ pain points, your opportunities, and your challenges. We’ll figure out the best way to position your company to beat your competitors. Afterwards, I’ll send you a detailed outline of everything we discussed.
What you get: A marketing template to identify your audience, your goals, what you offer, and how you differ from your competition.
2) Getting Started
Once we’re both clear on what you need and what you want to accomplish, I’ll send you a quote for the work.
When that’s approved, you’ll get a contract and an initial invoice (usually for 50% of the project cost), as well as a schedule with deadlines for each stage of the project.
If I need any other information, such as contact details for other members of your staff, designers, or web developers, I’ll ask for it then.
What you get: A quote and a project schedule
3) Research and Writing
I’ll dive deep into your business, your industry, and your competition. I’ll research the competition and find out what they’re doing well (or poorly) and how you can set yourself up to beat them. I’ll follow up with you, your staff, and any third parties as needed. I’ll get into your customers’ heads to find out what keeps them up at night, what they really want from your product, and why your company’s products solve their problems.
I’ll start putting it all together:
- points to be covered
- stories to emphasize
- successes to highlight
- details and benefits of your product or service
- your unique selling points
- your ideal customer, their anxieties and goals
- your obstacles and opportunities
I’ll get started on the draft. If I have questions, or need to talk to you again, I’ll let you know. And, I’ll keep you updated on how it’s going.
What you get: A near-perfect draft delivered in plain text (for ease of upload) Any questions, comments, or internal links to be added will be clearly highlighted so you can find them quickly.
We go over the draft, answer any questions, and get your feedback. I’ll make the revisions (one round is usually enough, but you can have two if you need it).
When you’re satisfied, you pay the remaining 50% and I’ll send you the final version.
What you get: A document that’s ready to post or send to your web developer.
Everything’s approved and we’re ready to push the button and publish!
What you get: More leads, more clients, and more sales. After that, you’ll want to start work on new projects and recommend me to your colleagues and clients.
6) New Projects!
Now, it’s time to test a landing page, write new web copy, or create a new email campaign. We’ll look at the analytics, parse your stats, and create another success.
What you get: An expert, dependable, tech-savvy copywriter and marketer who can earn you more money.
