That's true, many people do turn to Twitter and Facebook now. Of course, being a direct response marketer and copywriter, I naturally turn to lists. The thing is, that Internet marketing is really a direct marketing campaign (just faster and with better tracking). Whether you buy leads, get them through pay per click, or tweet, you still have to focus on who your target market is, and determine the best ways to reach them.

Good point about the list brokers. I have dealt with both the trustworthy and the not so trustworthy kind.

If anyone would like the name of a good one, feel free to contact me.

Buying leads is something not many people write about in the Social Media Facebook Twitter age, is it. Except direct response marketers and copywriters of course. A couple of thoughts from me:

* Always test a list before you lay serious money on the table for an entire list.

(Actually I should right a post on my blog about how to avoid getting ripped off by not so honest list brokers.)

* And test and track everything. You would not be the first customers whose emails did not get sent out, because the "tech guy" forgot to press the button or some ISP had some weird problem that day. If you get zero sales. They probably didn't send anything.
Or Jody. Do it for me. We'll figure it out.

* And be careful about choosing a trustworthy partner. The material needs to be permission based. This is probably even more important with email campaigns nowadays. (Disclaimer: I am not an attorney and I don't offer legal advice. I only share my humble opinion.)
